The Toronto Argonauts Against Homophobia

By now I am sure you all know who the Argonauts are. They are the 2012 CFL Grey Cup Champions (Canada’s version of the NFL Superbowl)… they are also the team that Mike Bradwell plays in!!!!

So for the last month or so, I have been approached by random people who read my blog saying things like, “I saw a thing on Xtra where that player you always feature on your blog was speaking up against bullying and homophobia.” Last night was about the 5th time someone approached me with that and, it happened again today!

I had to get to the bottom of this, so I had them send me the video that everyone is talking to me about.

With the Grey Cup Champions and do gooders Mike Bradwell and the gentle giant Joe Eppele (scary looking guy in the background)

Just to let you know, I use the word scary because he always looked intimidating to me as opposed to Mike who is always like, “well don’t just stand there and take the picture, come get in the picture with me!” This is usually when I squeal on the inside in excitement and forget to pose which results in me looking like crap next to him.

Then one day I talked to Joe Eppele and GASP, he was the NICEST and sweetest guy ever! It was so surreal because I remember thinking, “why am I so afraid of this guy?” It’s not like he has ever done anything to make me feel this way, I have never even spoken to the guy!

All my fears were solely based on how he looked and how in my mind, I perceived him to be. I felt absolutely horrible about it (me of all people judging others based on their appearance- SHAME) and I did apologize to him even though he was like, “what are you talking about?”

It kinda felt (in a very strange way) like it was homophobia in reverse, does such a thing exist?

Joe Eppele (whose picture I will take next time) and Mike Bradwell celebrating after winning the Grey Cup. CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!

How easy it is to judge rightly after one sees what evil comes from judging wrongly!
