Suri’s Burn Book

May 15, 2012 7:02 am

Suri Cruise

I can tell you that currently, my favorite blog out there right now other than my own is Suri’s Burn Book.

It is very clever, candid and funny, a celebrity kids blog. It is billed as “A study in Suri and the people who disappoint her.”

It is also kinda mean but you are made to believe that it is actually Suri that is writing it so it kinda feels OK when she is mean because, she is a little girl! In the blog, she has her favorite past times such as glob trotting and fashion. She also has her favorite people and enemies which includes her parents! Soooo mean!!!

Please let this be a phase I am going through because I am sure the people on the receiving end of Suri’s wrath are probably not amused.

Rebranding Africa; VOGUE

12:59 am

The long awaited L’Uomo Vogue May issue dedicated to Africa is about to hit news stands and we get a sneak peak on the cover.

Could Vogue not find a better representative for their groundbreaking first ever Africa issue than Ban Ki-Moon? He is Chinese!!!

Just saying… I was available, all they had to do was ask!

Franca Sozzani, editor of Vogue Italia says:

“All the pictures are made in a glamorous way — there is nothing sad, trashy or poor. People may say that Vogue does not want to talk about sickness and poverty, but if we can give an uplifting image, it is helping people who would not have considered Africa at all. The whole issue is packed with portraits of local personalities: not just presidents, first ladies and queens, but also artists, singers, musicians, actors, stylists, writers, models. Every one has been portrayed in a positive light. They all agreed to take part in the issue precisely because presenting a positive image of the continent means focusing world attention on an area that has been hitherto excluded.”

Well, I am glad to see that others are now jumping on the Lamu Tamu bandwagon. Like Obama, everyone is evolving.

According to the New York Times,

The Vogue Italia editor has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for Fashion4Development — a global campaign that uses fashion-based initiatives to support the United Nations’ wider issues in helping Africa.

Parenting TIME

May 11, 2012 4:55 pm

I suspect this will be a scandal that will have Time Magazine laughing all the way to the bank… and just in time for mothers day.

On the next issue of Time magazine, a woman is photographed breastfeeding her 3yr old son on the cover.

I have talked about breastfeeding before believe it or not, check the article I did here.

Also, click here for more on TIME Magazine’s Are You Mom Enough cover.

I am so intrigued by this that I am currently reading up on human lactation, pretty interesting stuff!

Mommie Dearest

10:38 am

I created these meme’s for you to share just in time for Mothers Day! I am in awe and in love with all the mothers in my life…. especially my number 1 :-)

This one is my favorite mother and child picture. Everything is perfect in the world with the mother knowing that her baby is asleep. But on a serious note, what is going on in this picture?

I also love this picture because you can tell that the mother is just exhausted but determined to keep working if the baby keeps sleeping.

I got you babe! Awwww

OK, I think this is my ultimate favorite. The pride and joy on that mothers face!!!!

Monday Morning!

May 7, 2012 12:20 am

I just got this picture from the White Party I attended last Friday.

Everyone asked, “are you getting married?” To which I responded, ” I am just renewing my vows to being alive and fabulous!”

Its a new day and a new week, let’s GO GET EM!!!

It’s The Weekend!

May 5, 2012 2:05 am

I had such a great day! I went out to a bunch of parties and I didn’t even take that many pictures. Well, I took like a few but nothing special. Will post them tomorrow. What I did do however is have a fantastic time.

Remember, life is about kicking ass, not kissing it.

Actors Playing Legends

May 2, 2012 11:42 am

Last week the news broke that Lindsay Lohan was going to play the recently departed dame Elizabeth Taylor in a movie and, I shared my thoughts on that with you. For whatever reason today, I remembered other actors who have managed to successfully play infamous and legendary people convincingly, below are my favorite. Lets give my girl Lindsay a chance, if the people below can do it, then so can she!

Do you remember the time Iman played Nefertiti in a Michael Jackson video? I bow down to her.

Kate Blanchet as Queen Elizabeth the 1st. She was so fierce in that final scene.

Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles? Need I say anymore?

Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin, this to me was the best portrayal of an African by an American actor... and I am usually very critical of such attempts.

Sir Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi. BRAVO!

Speaking of the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, we all remember her in Cleopatra. I know she obviously looked and sounded nothing like an Ancient Egyptian queen but, she OWNED IT! She turned it out in an unforgettable performance that now makes it impossible to think of Cleopatra in any other likeness than the one portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor.

True Love Story

Apr 30, 2012 1:26 pm

A few days ago, I posted these pictures of two young  models, Harry Uzoka and Loemie Anderson in a very intimate editorial. I just discovered that the reason they looked so comfortable in the photoshoot is that they are a real life couple!

Below is their most beautiful love story in a new editorial from Ones2Watch.

Harry saw Leomie for the first time while watching the Channel 4 documentary series The Model Agency. He turned to his mother and declared that Leomie was the girl he wanted to marry. After much e-stalking, Harry managed to woo Leomie via Twitter. They have been together ever since. Harry’s mum is still in shock.

I Will Be A Nayslayer

Apr 29, 2012 6:20 am

On my way to the bathroom today, I caught a glimpse of my reflection on my Blair Chivers art piece and I suddenly became inspired.

I usually refrain from publicly giving myself away by wearing a smile or emotionless face to strangers. I only reserve the real me as a gift for my friends, loved ones or those that deserve it. I will therefore take a departure from the usual light and fluffy meaningless stuff to actually post something with some depth for a change.

As you all know by now, I was featured on the very popular urban blog, The Fashion Bomb Daily as a BOMBSHELL… I like how it rolls of my tongue by the way. As I expected, the levee encompassing the dam that holds all the mean and vile comments burst open. As it is with floods, expect to find junk, trash sewage and filth in the contaminated water.

Unbeknownst to everyone, I was extended the courtesy by FBD to have some of the extremely negative and ignorant comments moderated and filtered but I declined. I did however think it was very kind of them to offer.

The reason I declined is that, mean spirited anonymous cyber bullies have found acceptance in the fabric of society. Unfortunately though, for people like me who dare to look or be different; people do say things like that to your face and not just online. Unfortunately, we are not accepted by society.

I have come to understand that the joy that comes with daring to be different is so covetable that once you attain it, you wear it proudly as a badge of honor to which some people will make you believe to be a scarlet letter.  Since I decided to consciously live life as myself, there is always someone trying to tell me that I am doing it wrong. I don’t know what it’s like to walk out of my front door without a sneer, stare or comment designed to dim my joy. This is the price that society makes me pay for being happy in my own skin and, the only way to survive is to have thicker skin.

What was it about the crocodiles and alligators that made them survive past the extinction of the dinosaurs? Could it be that they were more evolved than the rest, hmm?

Many of the comments seemed to have been directed at my wardrobe, I do not make an effort to be glamorous so as to be forgotten, thank you for noticing! Then there were those directed towards my physical appearance, keep in mind that my natural proportions match the idealized and often unattainable standards of beauty seen in the high fashion magazines that I subscribe to. I really believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder therefore, I give people who don’t think I am cute a pass. The difference is that, I would never actually say that to someone! I am used to being judged everyday by people, so much so that doing it to somebody else doesn’t come naturally to me. I am perfectly fine with being that way.

I am even occasionally encouraged by the readers of my blog to be meaner and inject some edge into my posts but I just can’t seem to do it. I have tried a few times but it resulted in so much guilt that I had to delete the posts soon after.

Perhaps the comments that puzzled me the most were the ones directed towards my hair which everyone unanimously agreed was bad. The reason I say puzzled is because, I seriously had no clue that I was walking around with the wrong type of fake hair. From what I gathered, the problem wasn’t that I was wearing fake hair; it was that I was wearing the wrong kind of fake hair. I mean no offense to the many black people who are genetically gifted with naturally long or even straight hair but, I just assumed like all black girls and the men that know or love them, that the only way to have straight hair that grows past your shoulders if you are not Somali, Ethiopian, biracial or have dreadlocks is to wear fake hair! It’s therefore not a secret that the majority of black girls with long straight hair only own it because they bought it, and not because it grows out of their scalp.

Apparently, there is a hierarchy, a cast system so to speak in the world of people who wear fake hair, and I was caught on the wrong side of it. Ever heard of the expression, “curtains don’t match the drapes?” Well, it appears that my biggest sin was to wear expensive clothes with hair that didn’t look as expensive.

My response to that is; we all know that it’s not real, why debate that it’s fake?  I don’t see you criticizing Beyonce or Tyra. I really like how my fake hair looks on me and as of right now, I seriously don’t see what you all see. If any of you naysayers happen to see me on the carpet, you better bring it or else you will be slayed by a girl with the wrong kind of fake hair… like Natalie Portman.

I work out! Insert LMFAO song here...

Perhaps the most interesting comment and probably the longest one was the one you will read beow:
