White House Correspondents Dinner
The only place to be last night was at the White House correspondents dinner. A very mixed crowd but my absolute favorite thing was how well dressed the celebrities were… they usually are for some reason when they are in Washington, which makes me want to party there.

Just in case you were wondering, this is what I would wear to Washington. Red, white (arm candy or two) and blue. I don't have access to that red bolero jacket anymore so I will have to get crafty.
I am a bit exhausted today and not feeling like selecting my favorite fashion looks from the event. I did however find another blog for you to go check, they did a good job at getting everyone’s pictures. Check it out here.
The Dictator vs THE Dictator
Sacha Baron Cohen showed up at the 2012 Academy Awards and walked the red carpet looking like one of my favorite tyrants.
Kim Jong- Il; DEAD
Today I woke up to the news that the North Korean leader, Kim Jong- Il had died. In the coming days, I will have gathered enough material to do a fashion article on the late Kim Jong- Il’s signature style, that should be fun. Until then, enjoy the paintings below.
Muammar Gaddafi: DEAD
I just saw a very disturbing picture on CNN of the bloody lifeless body of Muammar Gaddafi with blood oozing from every orifice of his face. I can never understand WHY they must show such disturbing images on TV!?!?!?
I always wonder what the standard is that says it’s OK to show all the gory details of a dead African while if it were a Caucasian, the standard is to observe respect and sensitivity and only show their bodies shrowded with a white cloth and filmed from a not so intrusive distance.
Am I the only one who has noticed that?
Obama By Platon
A few posts down, I profiled the portrait photographer Platon where I included some of my favourite images. It was not intentional but I forgot to include the one below.
Platon; Portraits Of Power
Platon is the one name photographer who specializes in photographing world leaders and global political figures. I like how he found a niche in portrait photography and owned it. Below is a mix of my favourite Platon portraits combined with some of his most famous images.

Muammar Gaddafi. This is my favourite picture. I love his intricate monochromatic layered outfit with the pins and the Africa brooch.

This picture affectionately known as "the crotch shot" is probably his most well known. It was taken during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
DLish Image Of The Day
Mäkonnen Wäldä-Mika’él Guddisa (May 8, 1852 – March 21, 1906) was a general and the governor of Harar province in Ethiopia, and the father of the Emperor Haile Selassie I. He was a first cousin of Emperor Menelik II, and a member of the Solomonic (King Solomon, Queen Of Sheba etc) dynasty.
Royal Wedding; Official Portraits.
I will take a wild guess and say that the newlyweds will honeymoon somewhere in the Americas… North, Central or South America. Canada starts to get really beautiful this time of the year.
Dictator Fashion: Egypt
It has been a long time since we posted anything under the Tyranny Drag category of the blog. I know he is a FORMER dictator and all but I still had to post this!

Hosni Mubarak wears suits with his name in the pinstripe at a cost of about $25,000 per suit. How do you even do that on a fabric?
Can I just say that I want one too… with my name obviously! Or you could even have one with poetry, scripture or slogans! Could Hosni Mubarak have started a new fashion trend?
It’s like a bumper sticker but on your clothes.
In other Egyptian news, Oprah will NOT be taking her show to Tahrir Square like she did in Australia as has been reported.
